Connecting the Unconnected
In the vast landscapes of Northern BC, access to reliable internet is not a luxury—it's a lifeline for education, business, and community well-being.
Overcoming Geographic Barriers to Connectivity
For many communities in Northern British Columbia, the "last mile" of internet connectivity remains a significant challenge. The difficult terrain and sparse population make traditional fiber optic infrastructure economically unfeasible for many areas. This creates a stark digital divide, limiting access to remote work, online education, telehealth services, and e-commerce for residents and local businesses.
Our work in this region focuses on documenting and supporting innovative solutions that bypass these physical barriers. We highlight the partnerships between local governments, First Nations, and technology providers who are pioneering new ways to deliver high-speed internet. From low-earth orbit satellite constellations to community-owned wireless networks, these initiatives are creating new possibilities for economic development and social equity in the North.
